Electrical Simulation

Electrical Stimulation (E-Stim) uses controlled electrical impulses delivered through skin electrodes to stimulate nerves and/or muscles for therapeutic effects.

Mechanism of Action

How It Works

  • Pain Gate Control (TENS Effect) → Electrical signals “override” pain signals traveling to the brain → reduces pain perception

  • Endorphin Release → Stimulates the body’s natural painkillers → longer-lasting pain relief

  • Muscle Activation (NMES)

Best For

What You'll Feel

A gentle tingling, pulsing, or tapping sensation

Comfortable and adjustable intensity

Typically relaxing, not painful

Session Time

Typical Duration: 8 minutes

Often combined with other treatments (therapy, adjustments, rehab)

Can be used at the beginning (pain control) or end (recovery) of session

Contraindications

Electrical Stimulation should NOT be used in patients with:

Pacemakers or implanted electrical devices

Pregnancy (over abdomen/lumbar region)

Active cancer in treatment area

Open wounds or infected skin (unless specifically indicated)

Severe sensory deficits (impaired ability to feel stimulation)

Over carotid sinus (neck) or heart region
